change default filetype for saving

Description

SS always defaults to PDF for the output type. Even if you change it to another type when saving one set of files, and do not close the application, the file-type reverts to PDF for the next save operation.

It would be nice if:
1. it would retain the current file-type across multiple save operations
2. there was an option in the preferences dialog to set a default that would be persistent on closing/reopening the app
